Uniting The Tribes

The original ‘Tribes of Galway’ were united by loyalty to each other.

This unity gave them the strength to triumph in adversity.

They were leaders on the field, willing to defend their turf to the last.  The nickname Tribesmen was their badge of honour. Inspired by history, driven by ambition and united by passion, today’s tribal warriors proudly carry on that legacy!

Supermac’s has a long and proud link with sport within the communities we operate. Our sponsorship with Galway hurling is the longest running intercounty GAA sponsorship in the country. Supermac’s is also the proud and official sponsor of Galway Football, Camogie, Ladies Football and John Muldoon, along with sponsorship of Galway United.

John Muldoon Teams Up With Supermac’s

John Muldoon has been announced as the new ambassador for the ‘FRESH’ range of Supermac’s  Irish beef and chicken products.  Supermac’s has a full premium range of fresh sandwiches and burgers specifically the Wholemeal Grilled Chicken Sandwich, the Chicken Breast Sandwich and the 5oz Beef Burger. The promotion of the Fresh range is a further commitment of the family group of restaurants to the Irish food sector.

John Muldoon’s association with the fresh new approach to rugby in the west was a key consideration. He comes from a strong farming background and was a natural fit for the campaign. John grew up in Portumna, Co Galway in the heart of Galway hurling country and played with the local GAA there. He played with Galway legend Joe Canning. But his road led him to play rugby and he has become a legend of Irish, Connacht and Galway rugby since then, most recently captaining the Connacht team to the Pro 12 title in 2016.

“We are delighted to have John on board as brand ambassador for our fresh range of products,” Supermac’s MD, Pat McDonagh said. “John is an icon of Irish rugby and has proven himself as a great competitor. He has always brought a fresh approach to his demeanour on and off the pitch. He is a natural fit for this fresh range of products and the Supermac’s brand in general.”

New Supermac’s Ambassador, Connacht Rugby Captain John Muldoon.

John Muldoon said that Supermac’s unique position at the heart of each community was one of the reasons he was attracted to the brand. “Supermac’s is an integral part of each and every community they are located in. People trust Supermac’s to deliver what they want,” he said. “One of the things that makes Supermac’s unique is that they listen to their customers and give them what they want. One of the things that customers looked for was fresh 100% Irish beef and chicken. When you compare these fresh products to frozen offerings you know that the customer is the primary focus of what Supermac’s do.”

We are the only quick service chain of family restaurants to provide fresh never frozen premium product range. “The importance of having fresh meat is because when it is frozen, meat loses moisture. When it loses moisture, it loses flavour,” Pat McDonagh said. “We only use beef sourced from Irish Farmers. Our 5oz burgers are made from prime cuts of beef and are cooked to order. This means that your burger or grilled chicken does not touch the grill until after you order. It is cooked fresh every time,” he said..

Here at Supermac’s is also taking a fresh approach to its sponsorship in the west with a ‘Uniting the Tribes’ campaign that draws together all the key sporting sponsorships the company has undertaken in the region. Supermac’s is the longest serving sponsor of a GAA inter-county team having begun its sponsorship of Galway hurling in 1991. Supermac’s now sponsors Galway Football as well as Galway Hurling, Galway Camogie, Galway Ladies Football, Galway Ladies Soccer, Galway United and now John Muldoon.

We are looking forward to building a great relationship with John Muldoon over the coming month’s and also finding out his favorite Fresh product within Supermac’s

A match made in Supermac’s

We are delighted to announce we are the official sponsor of The Marty Squad on RTÉ Radio 1. The show, which returned to RTÉ Radio 1 on Sunday 11th June, will air from 6-7pm each Sunday.

The Marty Squad, presented by Marty Morrissey and Brenda O’ Donoghue, takes a look at the weekend’s GAA action with guests and analysis. The show will travel across the country with outside broadcasts planned throughout the summer.

The sponsorship runs for the whole GAA season up until September 24th. The Marty Squad with the help of Supermac’s will keep you informed of the best moments of the championship.

Supermac’s Managing Director, Pat McDonagh, said he was delighted to be on board with The Marty Squad. ‘Supermac’s is a strong supporter of the GAA throughout the country and the sponsorship of The Marty Squad is a natural fit for us,” he said. “Both Supermac’s and Marty are synonymous with the GAA and it is a tradition for fans to come together in Supermac’s after the big game for their own post-match analysis. The post-match analysis on The Marty Squad will fuel the hunger that exists for top quality GAA analysis directly after the match.” he concluded.

Niamh O’Shea, Sales Manager, RTÉ Radio, said: ‘We are delighted to have Supermac’s on board as sponsor of The Marty Squad. RTÉ Radio 1 is the home of the GAA championship and the Marty Squad rounds off the week with the best of guests and analysis of all the GAA action. Supermac’s, as a long-standing supporter of GAA is the perfect fit with the show and it will make for a successful partnership.

Supermac’s win at the Irish Franchise Awards 2017

Supermac’s has won the Franchise of the Year Award for Outstanding Contribution to Employment in Ireland at the Irish Franchise Awards 2017.

The awards were announced at an event at the Radisson St Helen’s Hotel in Dublin on Friday last. The awards recognise excellence in franchising and reward the outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals in the franchise industry and are in association with AIB. Supermac’s contribution to communities throughout the country was a key factor in the group of family restaurants winning the award. Supermac’s is Irelands largest indigenous quick service restaurant chain and is going from strength to strength with over 2,500 people employed in over 100 family restaurants throughout the country with significant expansion plans in the near future.

Supermac’s Managing Director, Pat McDonagh, said that he was delighted to win the award on behalf of the franchisees that do an excellent job. “Supermac’s plays a significant role in the communities our stores are based. Along with the employment we provide we become key members of the fabric of the society, particularly in rural Ireland,” he said. “Both Una and I are delighted that the employment we provide and the impact it has on the communities of which we are part has been recognised by this award. Our plan is to continue to create employment and to become part of the balanced effort to regenerate the economy of the entire country,” he concluded.

The judging panel for the 2017 Irish Franchise Awards included Newstalk Business Presenter and former Irish Dragon Bobby Kerr; Greg Swift, head of enterprise at Dublin Local Enterprise Office; Michael Bradley, former CEO of the Irish Franchise Association and Elaine O Regan of the Sunday Business Post.  Speaking on the night, Bobby Kerr commended the very high standard of the entries and presentations received and remarked on the huge numbers employed in Ireland through the various franchise systems. All finalists received a framed Certificate of Excellence on the night and winners received a bespoke crystal award and personalised branded video footage with highlights from the night.

Over 28,000 people are now working in the Irish franchise sector engaged in the operations of 2,975 different franchise units across a wide range of sectors ranging from retailing and food service right through to an interesting selection of business-to-business and business-to-consumer services.

The ceremony was an impressive business event reflecting the strength of the franchise sector over the last two decades.   David Killeen, Chairman of the Irish Franchise Association said “The awards are an opportunity for us to formally recognise and celebrate the excellent work being done by all franchise operators in growing our sector.  On behalf of the Association I would like to congratulate all entrants and winners with special thanks to our co-sponsors AIB and award sponsors which include Home Instead Senior Care, TaxAssist Accountants, Snap, The Irish Franchise Show, Eddie Rockets, McDonalds, Lets Operate, Comans Beverages, JBM & Merit Solutions, The Sunday Business Post  and Skillnet.”

A new IRISH arrival to the Grid in 2018

“We are confident that we have designed a car that is fast, competitive and Irish so we can take our place at the top table again”

-Pat McDonagh

Pat McDonagh has announced that Supermac’s will sponsor a Formula 1 team in 2018 in a move to develop the Irish food chains relationship with the motorsport sector. The group of family restaurants is a supporter of the Galway International Rally and is involved with the Formula 1 World Schools Competition that was last held during the US Grand Prix in Texas in October of last year. Supermac’s connection with motorsport includes involvement with the Galway International Rally and as proud sponsor of rally driver, Aaron McHale. Supermac’s has also developed the Supermac’s Racing brand to help develop engineering talent through the motorsport sector.

“Since the time of Joe Kelly Ireland has had a presence on the F1 circuit. Derek Daly, David Kennedy, Tommy Byrne and John Watson played their part to keep the Formula 1 flag flying and in recent years Eddie Irvine held the torch for us,” Pat McDonagh said. “Eddie Jordan brought things to a new level with the Jordan Racing team in the 1990’s but since 2005 there has been no recognisable Irish presence on the circuit and we aim to change that in 2018,” he said. “There has been almost a natural progression in the world of motorsport since our involvement as rallying sponsors that we now feel the time is right to pursue sponsorship in one of the highest echelons of the sport and our Supermac’s Racing sponsorship brand has given us the taste for success.”

The Supermac’s MD was giving little away when it came to who would be supplying the car but he was confident that they would be ready and competitive for the 1st race of 2018 in Melbourne, Australia. “There is a lot of work to be done to drive this along,” he said. “We have been working behind the scenes with the Formula 1 governing body and with a major Formula 1 brand who are looking to re-enter the scene in 2018 and we are confident that we have designed a car that is fast, competitive and Irish so we can take our place at the top table again.”

“Supermac’s has recently sponsored the Supermac’s Racing team at the World Finals of the F1 Schools Competition in Austin, Texas towards the end of last year. “This is where we got a feel for the power of the Formula 1 project and we began to look at ways of tying in with the races and more specifically with the racing team,” Supermac’s Managing Director, Pat McDonagh said. “It soon became clear that the Formula 1 Circuit was lacking an Irish element and our focus quickly turned to generating a relationship with a car provider with a strong Irish connection. It’s been in the fast lane since then,” he said.

Supermac’s Racing was a partnership between Supermac’s and St. Brigid’s College in Loughrea where the team designed and manufactured a 1/20th scale CO2 powered Formula 1 car capable of travelling at speeds in excess of 120km/h. The car won the award ‘Best Engineered Car’ at the F1 National Finals in the RDS last May. They also won additional awards for their marketing strategy and social media activity.
